HAMMOND | Graduates and friends of Hammond’s public high schools are invited to attend a Meet & Greet event—Tuesday, Oct. 30—of the recently-organized Alumni & Friends of Hammond Schools.
The free event is scheduled from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the School City of Hammond Administration Center, 41 Williams St. In addition to food, fellowship and a School City of Hammond update by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jerry Watkins, attendees will learn more about Alumni & Friends of Hammond Schools and its plans for supporting successful education in Hammond.
The organization plans social and fundraising events, outreach activities that benefit students and schools, and an annual Success Day at each School City of Hammond high school. Additionally, the organization seeks to be a liaison to class reunion committees to provide support to schools.
“Alumni and Friends of Hammond Schools serves and advances Hammond schools much like an alumni association does colleges and universities,” President and Gavit High Class of 1974 alumnus Ed Schoenfelt said. “We invite the many, proud Hammond graduates and friends who value the experience of public education in Hammond to join us in our efforts to give something back to our schools.”
Schoenfelt added that Alumni & Friends… is intended to be a vehicle for uniting Hammond graduates and friends through social events and other activities that generate financial support for school and classroom grants, while also encouraging success among current Hammond students.”
Alumni and Friends of Hammond Schools operates as an arm of the non-profit, voluntary Hammond Education Foundation, which supports extraordinary learning experiences in the School City of Hammond in ways school and classroom budgets are unable to cover.
