HAMMOND | Officials held a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday on improvements to the Harrison Park tennis courts.
The Hammond Redevelopment Commission approved a $572,800 contract for the work last month. Federal grant money from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will pay for the project.
The project will redo the 1950s-era tennis courts.
A future phase of work at the historical park on Hohman Avenue will remodel the park's playground equipment. No timetable has been set.
