HAMMOND | Life Point Church in Hammond is celebrating its 60th anniversary Sunday.
Originally called Hessville Assembly of God, the church changed its name in the last four years. Orlando Soler is pastor.
"I've been an assistant pastor there for many years and got elected as senior pastor in January," Soler said. "I personally have been attending the church for 15 years."
The church also has a Highland location, called Radiant Life, at 9414 Kennedy Ave.
"Between the two churches, we have about 250 people," Soler said.
The church will celebrate it anniversary during a 10 a.m. service Saturday and will live stream the ceremony so families in Highland can be a part of the celebrtation, too.
"The celebration service will consist of live music, kids sharing the history of the church and a potluck after the service," Soler said. "Former pastors will be there, too."
Soler said he is grateful to God for the many years the church is celebrating.
"My heart desired to lead more people to Christ and to make an impact in Lake County," Soler said. "I like the idea that we are a church for all people. We are multicultural and are a good representation of the community."
All are invited to the service. The church is at 7350 Kennedy Ave. in Hammond.
