HAMMOND | The sentencing of former Hammond megachurch Pastor Jack Schaap has been rescheduled to March 20, federal court records show.
Earlier this month, U.S. District Judge Rudy Lozano granted a motion by federal prosecutors to delay sentencing for the government to determine victim restitution in the case and respond to Schaap's objections to sentencing recommendations.
Schaap, the former head pastor of the First Baptist Church of Hammond, pleaded guilty Sept. 26 to having sex with a 16-year-old church member.
Defense attorney Paul Stracci previously objected to the delay in sentencing. He argued prosecutors have had enough time to calculate restitution, court records show.
Lozano reset the sentencing hearing for 10 a.m. March 20 in federal court in Hammond.
