HAMMOND | Hammond police participated in a statewide St. Patrick's Day traffic enforcement blitz, with more than 948 citations issued between Feb. 28 and March 23.
Traffic citations included issuing DUIs, speeding, stoplight, stop sign and equipment violations.
Traffic stops also resulted in two arrested for possessing cocaine and a third arrested for being a habitual traffic violator.
Hammond police Lt. Patrick Vicari said the patrols were paid through the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.
In April, officers will resume enforcing pedestrian violations targeting high school and middle school students, Vicari said.
