CROWN POINT | A Hammond man was sentenced to five years in prison in the beating of his father, according to court files. Thomas Stevens, 53, was convicted of felony battery in the case.
Stevens' father was watching television when Stevens began striking the man with a wooden tray about the head and body until he lost consciousness, according to a news release issued by the prosecutor.
The victim suffered multiple injuries from the attack, including broken ribs, bleeding on the brain and lacerations on the arm, a Lake County prosecutor's office release said Monday.
