HAMMOND | Hammond police conducted a simulated bank robbery Thursday evening at Standard Bank and Trust on Calumet Avenue.
The department's SWAT Team participated in the exercise, which involved subjects taking “hostages” at the scene, 7007 Calumet Ave.
“It tests our readiness,” Hammond Police Department Chief Brian Miller said. “It gets the guys real practical experience on a real bank handling a simulated call.”
Miller said the department's 22 SWAT operators and approximately six or seven negotiators were scheduled to participate. The exercise was set to run until 9 p.m.
