HAMMOND | The Police Department recently participated in the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over traffic safety campaign.

Hammond officers conducted a sobriety checkpoint, 12 DUI patrols and 31 aggressive driving patrols, according to Hammond police Lt. Patrick Vicari. Officers issued 920 citations, including 310 speeding citations, seven arrests for operating while intoxicated and 50 signal/stop sign violations in the program.

The campaign is funded by federal dollars through the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.
