HAMMOND | The man killed on his front porch Tuesday may have been arguing with three men before he was shot to death, Police Chief Brian Miller said.
Police continued pursuing leads in the case Wednesday, Miller said.
Police described the three suspects as black men, neatly dressed and in their 20s. One of the men may have had braids in his hair.
The men are believed to have left the scene in the 600 block of Mulberry Street in a silver Ford Mustang with Illinois plates. The car may have a black stripe, Miller said.
About an hour before the fatal shooting, police responded to the same neighborhood about 11 a.m. and cited the shooting victim, Curtis Brown, 46, for loud music, Miller said.
Miller said Brown also may have been verbally abusive to a woman in a nearby park.
Police believe the three suspects may have been at the park or in the surrounding area visiting someone before the shooting, Miller said.
An initial report from the Lake County coroner's office indicated Brown was 47.
Police are requesting that anyone with information call Sgt. John Suarez or Sgt. Daniel Small at (219) 852-2906.
