Hammond Water Works has begun flushing of city hydrants

HAMMOND | The Hammond Water Works Department has begun hydrant flushing.

Flushing started on the north side and will proceed south for about four to six weeks.

The process might cause some water discoloration, department officials said. If that occurs, let cold water run for a few minutes.

The water will be safe to drink during the flushing.
