HAMMOND | Police are investigating a shooting Monday that left a Hessville man dead, officials said.

David Alexander, 32, died at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn after suffering a single gunshot wound to his head as the result of an apparent homicide, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Police were called when someone in the area heard gunshots near Carroll Street and Alice Avenue around 12:30 a.m. Monday, Hammond Police Chief Brian Miller said.

When they arrived, Alexander was found about 25 feet away from his car, which was still running in the street, he said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Sgt. Steve Guernsey or Sgt. Michael Nemcek at (219) 853-6490.
