HAMMOND | A Highland man was fatally shot Saturday while warming up his girlfriend's car outside a Hammond bar.

Thomas Ferrell, 38, was shot in the parking lot of Game Time Bar III, 2949 165th Ave., said Hammond police Lt. Richard Hoyda. Police were dispatched to the scene shortly before 2 a.m.

Ferrell apparently was heating up his girlfriend's vehicle when the shooting occurred, Hoyda said. Ferrell's girlfriend found him inside the car when she went to the parking lot, Hoyda said.

Ferrell was pronounced dead at 9:29 a.m. at St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago, according to a Lake County coroner's office news release.

Hoyda said police had no suspects in connection to the case as of Saturday night and are seeking the public's help.

"We don't have a whole to go on," Hoyda said of the investigation.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Hammond police Detective John Suarez at (219) 852-2981.
