HAMMOND | A Lake Forest, Ill., man has pleaded guilty to a federal charge of transporting more than 100 stolen household appliances into Northwest Indiana, Hammond federal court records state.
In an agreement forged with prosecutors in June, Danilo Danti, 60, admitted he transported stolen washers, dryers, refrigerators and other large appliances into Indiana between April and July 2011.
Danti formally pleaded guilty earlier this week in U.S. Chief District Judge Philip Simon's Hammond federal courtroom.
Danti was arrested in 2012, according to federal prosecutors, following investigations by the Schererville Police Department and the U.S. Secret Service.
A sentencing hearing in the case is set for Nov.15.
Danti could face up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. However, as part of his plea agreement, prosecutors have agreed to ask for some leniency at sentencing. Danti also agreed to pay restitution in the case.
