HAMMOND | The timeless fight between picky kids and their least favorite foods was expertly shown in ‘A Christmas Story’ when Mrs. Parker devises a plan to ensure Randy finishes his supper. As Mrs. Parker gently, but excitedly, asks Randy to show her how the piggies eat, Randy’s face soon shows the evidence of a successful victory in the fight. On Saturday, December 15, the Indiana Welcome Center will emulate that scene during the ‘Mommy’s Little Piggy’ eating contest.
Participants in the contest will compete against one another with empty plates of mashed potatoes the goal. There are four age groups: 4-7, 8-12, 13-17 and 18+. For the age groups 4-7, 8-12 and 13-17, participants will race to see who can finish one plate of mashed potatoes in the quickest amount of time. The 18+ category’s winner will be determined by who can eat the most plates of mashed potatoes within the 3 minute time limit.
Registration begins at 10:00 a.m., and participants are asked to bring canned goods and non-perishable food as the entry fee. All food collected will benefit the Food Bank of NWI. Previous winners are ineligible to win contests.
Prizes for the 4-7, 8-12 and 13-17 age groups are gift bags full of ‘A Christmas Story’ merchandise. The 18+ category winner will be awarded a $100 gift card to Strack and Van Til.
