Infant hospitalized after mom's beating outside Hammond home

CROWN POINT | A Chicago man has been charged in an alleged attack on his former girlfriend, which left their 3-month-old daughter hospitalized with head injuries.

The child was in her mother's arms Sunday when Stacy Striblin, 36, reportedly punched the woman during an attack in which the child fell, hitting her head on a step to the front porch of the woman's Hammond home, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained Wednesday.

Striblin continued the attack on the woman as she retreated into the home, again carrying the child, court records state. The woman fell in the doorway, causing the child to again hit her head on the floor.

The child was struck a third time when Striblin landed a punch meant for the baby's mother, court records state.

Police were alerted by one of the woman's older children, who called 911 from a nearby pharmacy.

Despite a protection order issued in Cook County, Striblin is accused of repeatedly punching the woman and throwing a radio, a lighter, roller skates and a space heater at her before hitting and beating her on the legs with a crowbar.

Police observed bruising and swelling to the woman's face and a laceration behind an ear that required seven stitches. The infant suffered bleeding to the brain and was taken to Comer Children's Hospital at the University of Chicago, records state.

Police said the infant's injuries were not life-threatening. Hospital officials did not respond to a call for comment on the child's condition.

When arrested, Striblin threatened to shoot a police officer and said he's a Latin King, records state.

Striblin admitted to a prior domestic battery case involving the woman and not attending anger management classes as ordered by the court, records state.

Striblin was charged with three counts of battery, confinement, domestic battery, interference with reporting a crime and invasion of privacy.
