HAMMOND | Spring is the perfect time to introduce third grade students to an all time classic, "Charlotte’s Web." All of the third grade teachers at Lincoln Elementary School in Hammond read this great book to their students.
When they finished the book, the parents were invited into the classroom to complete a project depicting their favorite scene from the book. The parents and students then created a shoebox diorama using items that they brought from home. The teachers brought recycled materials for the children to use that they picked up from the Hammond Recycling Center on Calumet Avenue.
The parents joined their children in the classroom to create this work of art. The scenes in the dioramas displayed a barnyard full of farm animals, farmers, and spider webs.
The dioramas were then displayed in the cafeteria for the entire school to enjoy. The responses from the parents were overwhelming. They really enjoyed coming into the classroom to work alongside their children.
