HAMMOND | During the month of March, sixth grade students from the Planets Community at Gavit Middle School worked on a “Dream Home” project. This project gave the students an opportunity to let their imaginations run wild. The students designed and drew their dream home and also wrote a descriptive essay about what their dream home would be like if they ever had the chance to build one.
This project gave the students a chance to use their imagination to come up with all different types of rooms. The rooms did not have to be realistic which gave the students an opportunity to come up with some great ideas. Some of the rooms included: a candy room, glow in the dark laser tag room, a water park room, and a roller skating room just to name a few.
Once the students designed each room, they had to write an essay describing their dream home using their sensory details. They also needed to include where their dream home would be located. Students chose all different parts of the world to build their home. Some of these places included: California, Florida, Hawaii and China.
This project was one of the more challenging projects the students have done this year, but the majority of the students had a great time working on it. The students did a wonderful job on both the essay and their design. Designing a dream home really gave the students a lot to think about. This opened up their eyes to how important it is to do well in school so hopefully they can one day build the home of their dreams!
