HAMMOND | A Merrillville man is facing a federal charge of theft of government property, according to the U.S. attorney's office.
Demetrius Moore, 42, is charged in an indictment in U.S. District Court in Hammond. The theft charge deals with designated unemployment benefits and is a result of an investigation by the Department of Labor-Office of the Inspector General, according to U.S. attorney's office spokeswoman Mary Hatton.
Moore's case was unsealed Wednesday in federal court, but the indictment remained sealed as of Wednesday afternoon.
Moore had an initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Andrew Rodovich on Wednesday where the government agreed to a $20,000 unsecured bond, according to the federal court docket.
An arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday.
