HAMMOND | A 44-year-old man facing a child molestation charge in Lake County was sentenced Wednesday to 30 years in prison in a separate sexual assault case, the Cook County Sheriff's Office said.

Daniel R. Sims, of Palatine Township, was convicted on two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a child, according to a news release from the sheriff's office. He pleaded guilty to the charges.

Sims is accused of sexually assaulting three children in Illinois and taking more than 6 million photos of the minors as they were sexually assaulted, according to the release.

Sims has a pending molestation charge from Hammond, according to court records. He was charged June 20.

The Cook County Sheriff's Office said the investigation into Sims started in November 2011 after a child came forward and told police she was sexually assaulted by Sims from 2006 to 2011.
