It will be easy to stay busy in Hammond this month, with everything from boys basketball to pampered women on the schedule. Here's the line-up offered by the City of Hammond:
Today and Saturday, catch the 2012-13 IHSAA Class 3A Boys Basketball Sectional at the Hammond Civic Center. Hosted by Hammond High School, doors open at 5 p.m. today for the semi-finals, featuring Hammond High vs. Gavit at 6 and Lew Wallace vs. Griffith at (approx.) 7:30. The championship game is set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday, with the doors opening at 6.

Tennis serves up new fun for kids starting March 8. Join the Hammond Parks and Recreation Department and the U.S. Tennis Association at our Tennis Festivals.
Children can learn about tennis and the new programs in the City of Hammond. from 1 to 3 p.m. March 8 at Jean Shepherd Community Center, 3031 Mahoney Drive; 1 to 3 p.m. March 16 at Forsythe Park, 117th Street and Caroline Avenue, and noon to 2 p.m. March 30 at the Hammond Civic Center, 5825 Sohl Ave.

Join Hammond Mayor Thomas M. McDermott Jr. for the head shaving event for childhood cancer research, St. Baldrick’s Foundation, at 10 a.m. March 16 at the Hammond Academy of Science & Technology, 33 Meunich Court. Show your support for this fundraising event and see the mayor help by getting his head shaved for a great cause.
Easter egg hunt
Mayor Thomas M. McDermott Jr., and the Hammond Parks and Recreation Department present the Annual Easter Egg Hunt on March 16. Free for Hammond residents, the first hunt will be held at 10 a.m. at Dowling Park (behind Jean Shepherd Community Center). The second egg hunt will be at noon at Pulaski Park, 137th and Sheffield St.
