HAMMOND | "Working on behalf of the residents of North Township is never routine or even ordinary," said Frank Mrvan, North Township trustee.
Yet one recent day was extra special for Mrvan.
"My trip to West Lafayette will forever be a day that stands out. Equipped with $7,000 from this year’s Victory for Veterans Memorial Ride, my staff and I, along with representatives from local veteran’s group AMVRA, delivered 52, flat-screen televisions to the Indiana Veterans Home," Mrvan said.
Some of the televisions will be placed in lounges and resident rooms, while others will be used to help furnish apartments on the campus that are used by veterans who are able to live independently.
"Thanks to h.h.gregg, who was eager to give us a deal on televisions that truly was too good to pass up, and to our motorcycle riding veterans, who have been raising funds for their fellow vets for 14 years," Mrvan added.
"Our veterans in Northwest Indiana are the most dedicated group of individuals I have ever met. They are determined to do whatever they can to help those they served with – soldiers who returned with broken bodies and wounded hearts," Mrvan said.
"These are the folks who help me and who make me realize every day just how lucky we are to live in a community that cares."
