HAMMOND | A man is facing a felony robbery charge in connection with a purse snatching at the Walmart on 165th Street, Hammond Police Chief Brian Miller said.
Tyler Flores, 19, of Merrillville, was arrested and taken to the Lake County Jail, Miller said.
A man threw a 55-year-old woman to the ground to steal her purse and then ran to a waiting car about 2:18 p.m. Friday, Miller said. Police stopped the car at 165th Street and McCook Avenue, where three individuals were initially taken into custody.
An off-duty Chicago police officer had contacted Hammond police when he saw a suspect flee the Walmart parking lot and gave police a description of the vehicle, Miller said.
