HAMMOND | A Munster man who pleaded guilty to bribing a former Hammond city councilman could face 18 months to two years in prison, according to court records.
David L. Johnson, owner of Dave's Tree Service, will be sentenced in federal court Feb. 6. According to court records, Johnson pleaded guilty in October 2012 to bribing Al Salinas with more than $10,000.
According to a sentencing memorandum, Salinas steered more than $300,000 worth of city work in a two-year period to Dave's Tree Service. The government recommended a judge sentence Johnson to 18 months to two years in prison.
Salinas was sentenced in August to 3 1/2 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to charges of taking $10,500 in kickbacks. Following his plea agreement, he resigned from his 2nd District council seat, which he had held since 1995.
