HAMMOND | The new Lake George Pedestrian Bridge has earned distinction as a 2012 Outstanding Transportation Project by the Indiana Metropolitan Planning Organization Council, the Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority announced Thursday.
The bridge, which opened in spring, connects Whiting and Hammond. An RDA grant funded the $4 million project.
John Swanson, Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission executive director, accepted the award on Oct. 17 at an Indiana MPO conference.
Swanson presented the award to Hammond Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr. on Thursday at a NIRPC meeting.
