HAMMOND | The Bishop Noll girls volleyball team received a grand send-off Friday morning as the Warriors headed to Muncie and Ball State University for Saturday’s Class 2A state championship game against Providence.
After an early-morning pep assembly in the school’s fieldhouse, the Noll band and cheerleaders led the volleyball team through a tunnel of fellow students onto their Muncie-bound bus, which received an escort out of Hammond by fire department sirens.
The Warriors (30-9) will face Our Lady of Providence (35-4), last year’s Class 2A runner-up, at noon Region time in Worthen Arena on the BSU campus. The match can be viewed live on www.ihsaatv.net.
Bishop Noll’s advancement to the state championship marks the first time in IHSAA volleyball tournament history, which dates to 1972, that a team from Lake or Porter counties has reached this level.
