HAMMOND | Three children died in a house fire late Wednesday in the 600 block of Sibley Street, said Hammond Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Kevin Margraf.

The children's father and two other children were taken to Franciscan St. Margaret Health hospital in Hammond, Margraf said. They were expected to be transported to the burn unit at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital in Chicago for treatment.

Margraf said one of the three children who died was an infant. The ages of the other children were not known.

As of 1 a.m., firefighters were still at the scene and awaiting the arrival of the state fire marshal.

The fire remains under investigation.
