Officials say rental registration fees promote better housing conditions

Jim and Nikki Hall, of Cedar Lake, register their Crown Point rental property recently. Crown Point offered landlords a one-stop-shop event where they could register rental units ahead of a deadline to get all rental units in the city registered in compliance with a new city ordinance. Citizens have had since June to register ahead of the deadline for a fee of $50 each building and $20 per unit.
