Partners in education

Cynthia Warner-Lowe, left, director of Adult and Extended Services for the School City of Hammond, announces the 2013 Community Partnership Award winner at the 29th annual Graduation & Recognition Ceremony. Teacher Terry Borgetti, center, holds the plague presented to Rachael DeLuna, right, director of the Whiting Public Library. The library partnered with Hammond Adult Education the past two years to provide free English-as-a-second-language classes. The graduation, held recently in the Area Career Center, Hammond, recognized adults who earned General Education Development certificates and other students showing outstanding performance and attendance while attending classes during the 2012-13 school year. Hammond Adult Education provides GED preparation, adult basic education, English-as-a-second-language, U.S. citizenship, and workplace education classes. Fall classes begin in September.
