HAMMOND | A Portage man has been sentenced to eight years in federal prison following his guilty plea to possession of child pornography.

Michael Hostetler pleaded guilty in December to a federal charge of possessing child pornography on his computer, Hammond federal court records show. A judgment in the case was filed Friday in U.S. District Court in Hammond.

In June 2012, FBI agents obtained a search warrant and confiscated three laptop computers, two iPhones, two thumb drives and numerous DVDs from Hostetler's home in the 7000 block of Nottingham Avenue, court records state.

After going through the files, agents found several depictions of minors engaging in sexual activities, prosecutors alleged.

As part of his sentence, Hostetler also will be required to serve 20 years on supervised release following his prison sentence, court records show.
