A Purdue University Calumet nursing professor has been inducted into the prestigious American Academy of Nursing.
The induction invitation of Valparaiso resident Lisa Hopp to become a Fellow of the Academy is in recognition of her record of scholarship and leadership relating to evidence-based nursing practice, according to PUC Dean of the School of Nursing Peggy Gerard.
The 1,800 Fellows of the academy are considered among the most accomplished leaders in nursing-related education, management, practice and research. They serve the public and nursing profession by advancing health policy and practice.
“Being inducted into the American Academy of Nursing means having the opportunity to work with some of the best minds in nursing to advance nursing practice and healthcare policy,” Hopp, a 20-year faculty member, said. “We are at a tipping point where nurses can play a very important role in mending our ailing healthcare system. I am very honored to join this incredible group of nursing leaders.”
Hopp has played a leadership role in the establishment, development and advancement of the Indiana Center for Evidence Based Nursing Practice, housed in PUC’s School of Nursing. The center is part of a global cooperative effort intended to expand understanding and use of research-based evidence to produce best patient outcomes.
“Dr. Hopp’s work in evidence based nursing practice has had local, national and international impact on nursing practice and patient outcomes,” Gerard said. “She was instrumental in the creation of the Indiana Center for Evidence Based Nursing Practice, a collaborating center of the Joanna Briggs Institute. The center, coupled with Dr. Hopp’s scholarship in evidence-based practice, has made a significant positive impact on our School of Nursing curriculum and faculty.
“All of our faculty and staff are very proud of Dr. Hopp’s accomplishments and take great delight that she has received this very well deserved recognition.”
Hopp holds baccalaureate degrees from Grinnell (Iowa) College and Rush (Ill.) University and a master’s and Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
