Professor and Head of Purdue University Calumet’s Department of Communication and Creative Arts Yahya Kamalipour recently received the 2013 Information and Telecommunications Education and Research Association's Researcher of the Year Award.
As recipient, he delivered the keynote address at the organization’s annual conference last month in Cincinnati, Ohio, at which ITERA presents two major awards for research and service.
Kamalipour, of Munster, was selected for his far-reaching scholarly and communication efforts and successes, according to Richard Garson, ITERA board chairman. Garson highlighted Kamalipour’s international work, notably his creation of the Global Media Journal, which is published twice a year in 19 countries.
“This was a total surprise,” Kamalipour said of the honor. “It is one of the intangible and humbling rewards for my professional and academic work that I so passionately continue to pursue. And, hopefully, these various global initiatives will have a lasting impact on the communication discipline.”
Kamalipour’s philosophy of advancing international collaboration and cultural understanding through positive communication is respected worldwide.
In addition to having received numerous awards and honors, he has edited and published 14 global communication-related books, including the “Global Communication” textbook, which has been translated into the Chinese language.
