HAMMOND | Civil War re-enactors will provide live demonstrations from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Sunday at a special exhibit at the Indiana Welcome Center.

The exhibit, Region United, Nation Divided: Following Lincoln tells the story of Northwest Indiana's answer to President Abraham Lincoln's call to service during the 1861-1865 war.

Members of the 20th Indiana Infantry Company B re-enactment group are scheduled to provide live demonstrations this weekend, including displaying and discussing soldier camp equipment, weapons and the challenges of serving during our nation's bloodiest war.

The overall exhibit, which includes hundreds of photos, artifacts and battle flag reproductions, runs through April 30.

Copies of the new South Shore Line poster celebrating the region's Civil War history are available for $30 at the Welcome Center gift shop. Proceeds help local Civil War grave preservation and educational programs.
