South Shore Arts will begin its summer term of classes the week of June 10 at its three locations in Munster, Crown Point, and Hammond.

Choose from art classes, kids art camps and one-day workshops for children and adults. Most classes meet once a week and continue for five to 10 weeks. Classes include a variety of preschool, children's and adult classes, including drawing, painting, pottery, calligraphy, photography (35mm darkroom and digital), cartooning, book arts, manga, Whoville Creations, as well as Photoshop and Illustrator.

Summer Art Camps, for ages 5-9 or 8-15, are one week long from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday, in Munster and Crown Point. Choose from Beyond the Brush Painting, Middle Ages, Garden Party, Dinosaur Museum, Crazy For Collage, and more.

At the South Shore Arts Munster facility, classes are held in fully equipped art studios located on the lower level of the Center for Visual and Performing Arts, 1040 Ridge Road. Classes offered are pottery, drawing, painting, photography, cartooning, manga, and more. New this session is Book Arts and Whoville Creations. Returning is Drawing & Painting Portraits.

Workshops being offered are Bookbinding, Book Restoration, Chalk It Up, Tie-Dye and Artist Trading Card.

The South Shore Arts Crown Point branch, 123 N. Main St., offers classes in painting, pottery, drawing, manga, intro to digital camera techniques, Japanese art, fantasy drawing, calligraphy, and various children¹s and adult classes. There are also numerous one-day workshops for children and adults, such as stepping stone, ladies art night, Bugtastic, batik, and more.

South Shore Arts Hammond site, Substation No. 9, 435 Fayette St., offers classes in Photoshop, Illustrator, airbrushing, painting, drawing, a senior art workshop, and more. New this session is Mommy & Me Book to Art for ages 2-4 with their caregiver.

Thanks to a cooperative relationship with the City of Hammond, all Hammond residents taking classes at Substation No. 9 pay half price. Proof of residency is required upon registration.

Register by Thursday and save 10 percent on most classes. Discounts also apply for South Shore Arts members on most classes.
