CROWN POINT | South Shore Arts presents "Eclectic: Works by Joseph Perryman" at the Crown Point branch of South Shore Arts, 123 N. Main St., through Sept. 7. More than 20 pieces of Perryman’s award-winning work is viewable by the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday
Perryman’s work has appeared in books, advertisements, brochures and catalogs. He currently teaches image creation and web development in the Computer Graphics Department at Purdue University Calumet.
Like many artists, Perryman has drawn and painted for as long as he can remember. His mother, also an artist, encouraged his interest in art and nurtured its development. Perryman attended Purdue University to build a broad educational base before graduating from the American Academy of Art in Chicago.
Perryman worked as a graphic designer and illustrator in Chicago until the development of severe allergies to art materials led him to switch careers. Back at Purdue, he earned a degree in information technology. and spent many years in programming and web development. Now semi-retired, he can pursue his interest in fine art and illustration.
Perryman enjoys creating art digitally as well as with traditional materials and often combines them in his work. This blend of approaches often results in an image with a distinct visual quality that would be hard or impossible to create without the help of technology.
