HAMMOND | The South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority has recently released the 2013-2014 visitor’s map. The map features various festivals, attractions, restaurants, shopping, accommodations, parks and visitor services.
The map’s cover image is a photograph taken by South Shore tourist Scott Keithley during the 2012 Summer Fun Along the South Shore photo contest. Keithley and his son Aiden, were visiting family in Lowell from the Moody Air Force Base in Georgia. Keithley and Aiden had spent the day playing on the beach and hiking the dunes when Keithley snapped a photo of his son playing in the water.
The contest called for candid photographs of people enjoying summer activities such as the beach, festivals, parks or the waterpark. Keithley won a $500 gift certificate to B&H Photo and Video’s website for his winning image, with which he purchased a mini iPad to use as a learning aid with Aiden.
According to Keithley, he and Aiden were very excited to have won the photography contest and to have the image used on the cover of maps. Though only a casual photographer, Keithley takes as many photographs as possible of his son to send to his grandparents who live 900 miles away.
“While the lakeshore is only one facet of what the region offers, Keithley’s photograph really illustrates the kind of family-fun that can be found along the South Shore,” Speros Batistatos, president and CEO of the South Shore CVA said.
Visitor’s maps may be picked up at the Indiana Welcome Center, various hotels, attractions and businesses, or by requesting one from the South Shore CVA website at www.southshorecva.com.
