A photo titled “Somewhere in Tea-Time” by Tom Farris received the “Best People” Award from the jurors of the 32nd Annual In-Focus Photography Show at the Anderson Center for the Arts, Anderson (www.andersonart.org).
The show be on display until April 14. Fifty-two adult photographers from 23 different Indiana cities and towns entered the statewide competition. Forty-one photographers and seven youth photographers were selected by the judges to be featured in the exhibition, consisting of 116 works, many of which are offered for sale.
Farris is a Muncie-based artist, photographer, sculptor and writer well-known for his professional creative services for more than 45 years. A graduate of Ball State University, he shares art studios with his wife Linda, a Hammond/Munster native and also an award-winning artist.
He is also the son-in-law of Lois Parbst and brother-in-law of Brian and Kaia McShane, all of Munster.
Farris has been accepted into many juried art and photo competition/exhibitions throughout the U.S. – and has shown in previous In-Focus Exhibitions at the Anderson Center for the Arts.
The subject of the In-Focus “Best People” Award-winning photo, “Somewhere in Tea-Time.” is a group of seven ladies having tea in a lounge area of the Grand Hotel at Mackinac Island, Mich.
It is one of a series of artistic photos Farris took during the hotel’s “Somewhere In Time” weekend celebrating the movie of the same name. The ladies in the photo are dressed in authentic early 1900’s apparel, which adds interest to the photo.
In their comments about Farris’ award-winning photograph, the judges praised the “Amazing detail in the food, china, facial expressions” and noted that the “Use of natural light, no flash, brought up all the textures from dresses to faces.”
