HAMMOND | Hundreds of Franklin Elementary students could be heard abruptly chanting "Staley, Staley, Staley" in anticipation of the Chicago Bears mascot's grand entrance into their gymnasium.
Staley appeared courtesy of a partnership between the Chicago Bears and Subway to promote health and exercise.
"Our students are so excited," said Perry Palmer, Franklin Elementary School principal. "We are so thankful for the Chicago Bears and Subway for their commitment to community schools."
Hammond Walmart, Merrillville Broadway, Crown Point Broadway Subways and Owner Greg Roberts organize the annual event and choose area schools to participate in the presentation centered around topics such as health, bullying and literacy.
"This is our way to give back to our community," said Amy Johnson, Subway district manager. "The kids learn about important topics while having a blast through Staly's enthusiasm and funny performances."
Staley's stage presence is second to none as he joked with Franklin students, gave them high fives, danced the Cha-cha slide and encouraged them to take the Staley fitness challenge.
