MLK candlelight vigil slated

HAMMOND | The city holds its Martin Luther King Jr. candlelight march at 6:45 a.m. The group lines up in the City Hall parking lot, 5925 Calumet Ave., and travels to the Hammond Civic Center. A presentation will follow shortly after the march's arrival at the civic center.

Assembly salutes MLK legacy

GARY | A Martin Luther King Jr. celebration, hosted by the Ecumenical Committee of Northwest Indiana, is at 10 a.m. at West Side Leadership Academy, 9th and Gerry streets.

Bears mini-camp reader prize

LOWELL | Youngsters can participate in a five-week reading program and meet Staley, the official Chicago Bears mascot. It's from 1 to 3 p.m. Mondays at the Lowell Public Library, 1505 E. Commercial Ave. They have a chance to the grand prize drawing for a chance to win one of 100 grand prizes, a mini-camp conducted by Chicago Bears players.



University admission event

CROWN POINT | The University of Saint Francis Crown Point Admission Department will host question-and-answer sessions on the following dates for candidates seeking information about the admission process and program requirements from 5:30 to 7 p.m. today and Feb. 27 and March 20. An admission counselor will explain entry requirements for: University of Saint Francis, USF School of Health Sciences and the Associate of Science—Medical Lab Technician Program. Gospel music rehearsals set

Outdoor Sports Show opens

HAMMOND | The Hammond Outdoor Sports Show returns for its 29th year today and Sunday at the Jean Shepherd Community Center, 3031 J.F. Mahoney Drive. It runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5; children under 12 admitted free. Among features, the trout pond is back by popular demand.
