Dancing with Local Stars
MERRILLVILLE | The 20th Indiana Challenge DanceSport Competition opens to its four-day run at the Radisson Star Plaza.
An opening night highlight is the Dancing with the Local Stars contest from 7 to 8 p.m. It features eight couples where local celebrities are paired with dance instructors. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for youths 17 and under at Lake Area United Way, 221 W. Ridge Road, Griffith. They are also available at the door.
For the DanceSport competition, registration is at 9:30 a.m. Thursday. It opens at 7 a.m. Friday with dancing from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and again from 6:30 p.m. to midnight. Registration is at 7 a.m. Saturday. Sunday's hours are 8 a.m. registration and dancing from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. For prices and more information, contact www.IndianaChallenge.com.
Hobart High band performing

GARY | Bernice King, the youngest daughter of the late Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and the late Coretta Scott King, is in the region to host a special program, Keeping the Dream Alive Youth Rally 2013 and Beyond: Moving from Rhetoric to Action. A reception for the event, hosted by NIPSCO, is from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Radisson Star Plaza in Merrillville.
Wine tasting funds dog park

GARY | The Keeping the Dream Alive Youth Rally 2013 and Beyond: Moving from Rhetoric to Action continues with a youth/community rally at 9 a.m. at Van Buren Baptist Church, 2585 Van Buren St. Bernice King, the youngest daughter of the late Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and the late Coretta Scott King, will speak at a brunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Calumet College of St. Joseph. A Dream Symposium lunch is served at the Indiana University Northwest campus followed by forums beginning at 1 p.m.

Antiques sold at fairgrounds
CROWN POINT | The Crossroads Regional Chamber of Commerce hosts its antique and collectibles show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Lake County Fairgrounds Industrial Building in Crown Point. Admission is $4, children 12 and under admitted free of charge.

Roller derby match slated
HAMMOND | Region Rat Rollers host the first public interleague roller derby bout against Warsaw's Lake City Roller Dolls from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Jean Shepherd Center, 3031 J.F.
