HAMMOND | The city of Hammond celebrates Black History Month with a program at 10 a.m. in the lobby of City Hall. It will honor the contributions and social strides African-Americans have made in the city and around the world.

Clubs honor Youth of Year

HOBART | The Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Indiana host their Youth of the Year Dinner beginning at 6 p.m. at Avalon Manor in Hobart.

THURSDAY

Mama Mia dishes up pasta

HOBART | The 26th annual Mama Mia Spaghetti Dinner is served from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at St. Bridget Parish Center. The menu inclues spaghetti with meat sauce, salad, garlic bread, coffee and dessert. The cost is $8 for adults, $5 for children under 10.

Cash flow pointers offered

MUNSTER | A free seminar, Small Business Guidance: With Special Focus on Cash Flow, begins with registration and a continental breakfast at 8:30 a.m., followed by the program from 9 to 11 at the Center for Visual and Performing Arts, 1040 Ridge Road, Munster. It includes representatives from the U.S. Small Business Administration, the Indiana Small Business Development Center, American Savings and ProfitStars. Student union hosts dinner

CROWN POINT | A World Day of Prayer Service starts with a social hour at 9 a.m. followed by the service at 10 at First Methodist Church, 352 S. Main St., Crown Point.

Lowell fellowship gathering

LOWELL | Lowell First United Methodist Church celebrates World Day of Prayer with fellowship at 10 a.m., a prayer service at 11, and a complimentary lunch of soup, salad and desserts at noon. The church is at 520 E. Commercial Ave.

St. Monica Home items asked

HIGHLAND | Church Women United of Greater Hammond will World Day of Prayer worship from noon to 2:30 p.m. at First Christian Church of Highland, 9540 45th St., Highland. Donations for St. Monica's Home appreciated, including diapers, bibs without strings and bottles for newborns and women's non-slip slippers in all sizes.

SATURDAY

Event aids Fair Haven Center

SCHERERVILLE | A day benefiting the Fair Haven Center for Women runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Patrician Banquets, 410 E. U.S. 390, Schererville. Admission is a $1 donation.

Talent night supports mission

HIGHLAND | The Youth Group of First Presbyterian Church of Highland presents "Saturday Nyte Live," a charity auction, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the church, 8727 Delaware St. It's an evening of skits and a silent auction. Dinner is served before the skits and is free with an offering. It benefits youth mission trips throughout the country.

Event bolsters humane society

SCHERERVILLE | The Humane Society Calumet Area is hosting the 10th annual Where Best Friends Meet dinner, dance and silent auction from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Halls of St. George, 905 E. Joliet St., Schererville. The silent auction will feature items such as pet supplies, sports memorabilia, Walt Disney World day passes and gift certificates to local restaurants, salons and hotels and many more. All proceeds of the event will benefit the shelter. Tickets are $65 per person; $100 per couple (tickets purchased in pairs); $500 for a table of 10.
