HAMMOND | The two 17-year-old suspects in a rash of cellphone robberies in Hessville are being charged as adults, according to Hammond Police Chief Brian Miller.
Vincent Alexander Fayson, 17, and Tavaras Rashad Tolliver, 17, both of Gary, were each charged with two counts of armed robbery, Miller said.
Miller said the teens were waived to adult court.
Police arrested the suspects Wednesday and recovered two cellphones from a recent robbery and a silver revolver, Miller said.
Hammond police and Region STOP Team officers had pursued the suspects into Gary where they were arrested at an apartment.
Police had responded to three armed robberies and one attempted robbery of cellphones from Oct. 4 to Sunday. Most of the victims were teens ages 13 to 16 years old.
One 16-year-old victim had been punched in the face during a robbery.
