HAMMOND | The Hammond-based U.S. attorney's office raked in about $6.5 million in fiscal year 2012 related to criminal and civil actions, the office reported Friday.
Of the total, about $3.1 million came from criminal actions filed against defendants and about $3.4 million came from civil actions, U.S. Attorney David Capp said of his Northern District of Indiana office.
Capp's office also reported collecting another $2.1 million in criminal and civil forfeitures in the same time period.
Throughout the country, various U.S. attorney's offices collectively garnered $13.1 billion in criminal and civil actions during the same time period, more than doubling the $6.5 billion collected in fiscal year 2011, Capp's office said.
