HAMMOND | The Lake County Solid Waste Management District has completed its Earthlings Summer Day Camps and program at its Environmental Education Center in Hammond.
Seventy-five children participated and more than 580 people visited the center at 2405 Calumet Ave.
The camps teach young participants to reduce, reuse and recycle.
The center features a two-story tree side where youngsters spiral down the center of the tree trunk.
It also has a stocked indoor trout stream, and the ReUZ Room provides free supplies such as shoe boxes, buttons, used crayons, paper towel tubes, egg cartons, gift wrap and yarn to any nonprofit organization, including teachers, Scouting and church groups.
