HAMMOND | A 25-year-old woman suffered serious injuries after she accidentally fell from a second-story apartment window Saturday night, police said.

The woman was attempting to install an air-conditioning unit about 8:30 p.m. at an apartment on Robinhood Lane, Hammond Police Chief Brian Miller said.

She struggled with the air-conditioning unit, fell from the window and landed on the air conditioner, Miller said.

The woman was taken to the nearby Morton High School parking lot, where a helicopter airlifted her to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Miller said.

The woman's condition wasn't available Sunday.
