HAMMOND | A 31-year-old Hammond woman was forced inside her Hammond home and robbed at gunpoint Tuesday morning.
Police Chief Brian Miller said the woman was in front of her home in the 200 block of Marble Street about 9 a.m. when she was approached by a man with a black handgun.
The man demanded money and forced the woman back into her home to retrieve her purse. He took the purse before fleeing east on foot.
Miller said the man was Hispanic and spoke Spanish to the Spanish-speaking victim. The man was described as 5 feet 5 inches tall and 150 pounds. He was wearing a tan Carhartt jacket with a tan scarf over his face, police said.
Miller is asking anyone with information about the man or the crime to call Hammond detectives at (219) 852-2906.
