The National Weather Service is warning of accumulating snow late New Year's Eve into New Year's Day.

Forecasters said several inches are likely to fall in portions of Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Newton, Jasper, Benton, Cook and Will counties. The greatest accumulations are expected to occur north of Interstate 80.

Forecast models indicate 5 to 7 inches of snow are possible.

Several additional inches of snow are forecast for Wednesday afternoon into Thursday morning.

The National Weather Service said light accumulating snow is expected Monday night, moving from the south suburbs into Northwest Indiana after sunset. A few tenths of an inch to 1 inch of snow is expected.

With temperatures expected in the teens, the effectiveness of some de-icing treatments could be diminished and the Tuesday morning rush could be a slippery one.
