HIGHLAND — Police issued a warning Tuesday following a suspicious incident involving a child.

A parent told police a small child was walking with an adult and siblings about 6 p.m. Monday near the intersection of 99th and Fifth streets when the child ran several houses ahead of the group and waited alone at the intersection.

The child's parent told police a driver stopped at the stop sign, pulled forward, made a U-turn, stopped near the child and left.

The child told police the driver waved him over and told him "come here," police said.

The driver was described as brown-skinned with Afro-style hair. His car was possibly a silver Toyota RAV4, police said.

"The intent of the driver is not known and the circumstances could have been innocent," police said. "However, in the best interest of public safety the police wanted people to be aware of the circumstances."

Anyone who sees something suspicious is asked to immediately call 911.

Anyone with information is asked to call Highland police at 219-838-3184.
