HIGHLAND | Battle lines are strategically drawn as first responders roll up their sleeves in preparation for the annual Battle for Blood in North Township.
The Battle for Blood will take place from 8 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Wicker Park Clubhouse, 2125 Ridge Road. Come to donate and receive a coupon for a free pint of Culver’s Frozen Custard, an American Red Cross T-shirt and refreshments.
Sponsored by North Twp. Trustee Frank Mrvan Jr., the third annual North Township Battle for Blood will pit five communities against each other to see who can contribute the most blood - East Chicago, Hammond, Highland, Munster and Whiting.
“Because blood donations typically decrease in the summer, the Red Cross is grateful for the support of local first responders and the entire North Township community that battle to help maintain the blood supply,” said Sharyn Whitman, CEO for the Indiana-Ohio Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross. The goal of this year’s battle is to collect 80 pints of blood.
“We hope everyone from the North Township community will roll up their sleeves to donate blood and show their support of these local heroes,” said Whitman.
