CROWN POINT | A Chicago man is accused of breaking into his estranged girlfriend's Highland apartment where he took her belongings and threatened to hurt the woman, according to court records.
Royalty M. Cole, 26, was charged Wednesday with burglary resulting in bodily injury, armed robbery, carjacking, criminal confinement, battery resulting in bodily injury to a pregnant woman, auto theft and strangulation. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
A woman found Cole in her apartment Monday morning after returning home from work. Cole covered the woman's mouth to prevent her from screaming, and the two crashed into a mirrored door, according to the affidavit.
For the next three and a half hours, Cole refused to let the woman, who is five months pregnant, leave, according to the affidavit. During the incident, Cole waved a steak knife, threatening to kill himself and told the woman, "Don't make me hurt you," according to the affidavit.
Cole took the woman's cellphone, money and car keys, police said. She was knocked to the ground and dragged a few feet while trying to stop Cole from driving away in her car.
