HIGHLAND | A 21-year-old woman was robbed at gunpoint late Wednesday as she was walking to her car from the Fourth of July Festival in Highland, police said.
The robbery happened at 11:25 p.m. in the parking lot of Highland High School, in the 9100 block of Erie Street, police said. The woman and her two friends were approached by two men who pointed a gun at her and demanded she hand over her purse.
The woman, who is from Hammond, gave the men her purse, which contained money and an iPhone, police said. The two men ran north on Erie Street.
One of the woman's friends tried to chase the suspects but was hit in the head by one of the men, police said.
Both suspects were described as black men in their early 20s and about 6 feet tall, police said. One suspect had a slender build and was wearing a black sweatshirt. The other had a heavier build and was wearing a black sweatshirt and had short dreadlocks.
